Location Location Location!

Squeak Squeak!

After escaping my cage a few days ago and finding the book mummy brought to learn to to look after me, I decided to have a look through it. One thing stood out that I wanted to share my knowledge on, so here we are, squeaky squeak!

Today's lesson is the importance of the location of a hamster cage in the house. This is important because hamsters, especially dwarf hamsters have sensitive respiratory systems. Cages should be located on a solid flat surface with a bit of space around the cage itself to catch sawdust etc, some hamsters are throwers and will hurly pieces of bedding over a foot (12")!!!

This flat surface must not be near a door or window, nor can it be near a radiator or heating element, hamsters must be kept at a comfortable temperature with no fluctuation, between 65 ° F / 18° C and 80°F / 26°C ideally. If your having some building work done to your house, the relocation of the cage is essential as small dust particles can cause some serious health issues. Moisture is also a concern, if your hamster is in a damp environment, it will develop Pneumonia which can be fatal, so do not give your hamster a bath! Sand baths are fine (and fun) though.

So take note of this advice and ensure you provide the best living conditions for your pet hamster.
